Our next meeting is this week, Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the Ulster Town Senior Center at 7pm.
This past week was the Ulster County Fair! Our guild participated in many ways: *Yarn bombing* the Wool Room, spinning and sharing our love of fiber to fair-goers as they passed through, entering the fruits of our labors to be judged and win prizes, our Batts to Hats competition on Thursday evening, and the big event: the Fleece to Shawl contest on Saturday (our team took 2nd place of 4!). This year’s fair was bittersweet because it was the last with our longtime member Laura Watson as superintendent, as she is moving to Maine. Thanks Laura, for ALL of the work you’ve done over the years! We will miss you!
This month we’ll be reviewing the fair and probably start planning for Rhinebeck. Hetty is trying to get a fleece-to-shawl team together for the Dutchess Fair at the end of August.
We have a fun new enticement at every meeting: Door Prizes! You get one chance to win by bringing your wheel or spindle. Additional chances can be purchased for $1 each (all proceeds benefit the guild of course). We need a volunteer each month to donate a prize, so let us know if you’d like to contribute!
We also now have a snack at every meeting. Please bring your own reusable cup or mug and we’ll heat up some water for tea!
Date: August 8th (always the 2nd Thursday of each month)
Location: Ulster County Senior Center: 1 Town Hall Drive – Lake Katrine, NY
Topic: Fair review, planning for Sheep & Wool
Are you on Ravelry? Did you know we have a UCHG Ravelry group? Please join us for ongoing fun and chat throughout the month between meetings!
