February meeting

carol 3
Our February meeting is this week: Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 7pm (always the 2nd Thursday of the month). This month we are at our usual spot, the Town of Ulster Senior Center, next to the Ulster Town Hall, 1 Town Hall Drive, (Maroon/red building to the left of courthouse) in Lake Katrine/Kingston.
If you’ve participated in Jillian Moreno’s sample-along, bring your skeins or swatches for show-and-tell! Or bring whatever you’ve been spinning or making with your handspun. Above are some of Carol’s  sample skeins from her own hand-dyed roving. Find all the details here on Jillian’s blog, and also follow along with everyone doing it here!
The Ulster County Historical Society has asked us for ideas about a spinning demo day AND a spinning workshop sometime this summer/early fall. This will require one or two people to jump in to lead us if we want to help them out and gain some visibility. Please come to the meeting prepared to talk about ideas and your willingness to do the work.
At the last meeting, we spoke of topics we’d like to learn about and members were challenged to do some homework before the next meeting. We chose “bulky yarn” and “long draw.” For those interested in jumping on, please check YouTube, or books, or whatever to come prepared to try these techniques. We will look at “cocoons” and working with beads for a future meeting. Other suggestions welcomed. I know we have folks who prefer a social evening only, so we may split into groups at the meeting.
We will also talk about F2S for the Ulster County Fair.
Our annual dues are due! And Hetty has stepped up to be treasurer! Which means we can actually pay our dues. Bring your checkbook (check made out to Ulster County Handspinners Guild) or $15 in cash.

Our January meeting is this week: Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 7pm (always the 2nd Thursday of the month). This month we are back at our usual spot, the Town of Ulster Senior Center, next to the Ulster Town Hall, 1 Town Hall Drive, (Maroon/red building to the left of courthouse) in Lake Katrine/Kingston.
It’s a whole new year! We will be planning and discussing projects and programs for the year ahead. Bring something to show and tell!
Our annual dues are due! And Hetty has stepped up to be treasurer! Which means we can actually pay our dues. Bring your checkbook (check made out to Ulster County Handspinners Guild) or $15 in cash.
Many of us are participating in Jillian Moreno’s Sample-Along as a fun way to kick off the year! She will show 4 techniques for using a dyed braid of fiber to yield different effects. Pull something out of your stash and join in! Carol even dyed up some fiber herself (that’s it above, isn’t it gorgeous?) to work with. Find all the details here on Jillian’s blog, and also follow along with everyone doing it here!
